प्रधानमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी ने मालदीव और श्रीलंका की यात्रा से पहले कहा है कि भारत पड़ोसी पहले की नीति को काफी महत्व देता है। प्रधानमंत्री मोदी ने शुक्रवार को ट्वीट कर कहा, ‘सात और आठ जून को मालदीव और श्रीलंका का दौरा करूंगा। इन यात्राओं से पता चलता है कि भारत पड़ोसी पहले की नीति को कितना महत्व देता है और यह समुद्री पड़ोसियों के साथ संबंधों को और मजबूत बनाएगा।’

प्रधानमंत्री मोदी ने मालदीव की यात्रा का निमंत्रण देने के लिए वहां के राष्ट्रपति इब्राहिम मोहम्मद सोलेह को धन्यवाद दिया। उन्होंने ट्वीट कर कहा कि नवम्बर 2018 में मालदीव में उद्घाटन समारोह में शामिल होने का अवसर मिला था। भारत मालदीव को एक अहम साझेदार के रूप में देखता है जिसके साथ हमारे गहरे ऐतिहासिक और सांस्कृतिक संबंध हैं।
